Why hiring professionals matters, and why Southwest Greens of Atlanta is #1 for installation practices.
You may be asking yourself, “Can I install artificial grass myself?” Yes, it’s possible for you to install artificial grass yourself, but it is not an easy feat. The equipment and tools you’d need cost a lot, it takes a while to do it yourself, and you may void the warranty. Now, let’s learn why you really should have your synthetic golf turf installed by a professional who follows artificial turf installation best practices.
WHY PROFESSIONAL ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION
Regardless if you are interested in adding an artificial golf green to your home, or you are managing a commercial golf course, having artificial turf installed by a professional will save you time, headaches, and money — and, long-term, yield a better-looking green.
Saved Time
Even tiny DIY projects can often turn into a big problem. We’ve all been there. Repeat trips to the big box store for tools or supplies we didn’t even know we needed, plans not going according to plan, many days of laborious work? By having your turf installed professionally, you’ll save time, and you will be able to enjoy the greens sooner.
To properly install artificial golf greens, must level the ground, add a base of crushed aggregate, add padding, lay the turf, add infill, and roll the turf to have the best playability and to make it look realistic. Cutting edges so you have clean borders is tricky and needs a good deal of experience to get just right. All of this means you need some certain tools and knowledge to install correctly in order to avoid goofy sections and edges that start peeling up creating awful aesthetics.
Difficult Soil/Landscape
Perfect soil is hard to find. Most property owners can vouch for this. It is very rare to be able to sink your shovel into the dirt without issues. Instead, we must struggle with rocky soil, thick clay, or soil permeated with roots from trees and plants nearby in many places. Even digging can be tiring work. Worse, if you’re cutting into roots, you could be hurting surrounding plants you want.
We have had to deal with obstacles like huge boulders, old (and new) irrigation lines, and tree stumps on many of our installation projects. Every one of these obstructions must be removed or repurposed. Excavation also produces tons of soil you don’t want — where would you go with it? We often have to move this unwanted soil offsite.
A pro installer can address all of this . So if you don’t want to do very back-breaking manual labor or won’t know how to dispose of your excavated soil, hiring a professional installer for your project is your best bet.
Large Areas
When you install a golf green in a large area, seaming becomes among the most challenging parts of the turf to do correctly. This is the process of binding two or more pieces together. The process is like carpet installation, when the seams of artificial turf are done correctly, they aren’t noticeable. When seams are not done the right way, they’ll stand out and provide a disappointing finished product.
Imagine rolling up a piece of paper or a poster. Have you always gotten the alignment just right when attempting to execute a good roll? Sometimes instead of a clean edge, end up with paper sticking out on one side. This also is possible when seaming artificial turf. One tiny misstep at the start of the process will ruin the whole project and look bad in the end. Professional installers will have a lot of experience installing seams and they’ll make certain everything looks great before they’re done.
THE SOUTHWEST GREENS WAY
There are three specific things that separate Southwest Greens of Atlanta from others in the turf industry — craftsmanship, guarantees, and customer service. We don’t believe in generic artificial turf installations, and because of that, we have mastered the art and the science of Atlanta artificial turf installation. We’ve honed our process with at least 6,000 golf greens worldwide under our belts.
Here’s a quick glance at how our artificial putting green installation process works.
- A crushed aggregate base, which, unlike concrete, can be moistened and molded to make challenging breaks and undulations.
- Next, we install a cushion pad, at a minimum, that helps the ball roll and shot absorption, next comes our state-of-the-art polypropylene turf material that’s used to emulate the vibrant green color, softness, and playability of natural grass.
- The turf is then in-filled with a formulation of fine-coated silica sand that gives it the touch and feel of real grass.
- Finally, roll the tops to make the effect of real bent grass green. Options include installing first and second cuts fringe, bunkers, sand traps, roughs, and fairways.
